Chajchas - Medium (Bolivia)
18cm x 2cm
The Chajchas is a small percussion instrument from the family of rattles, typically made from goat or sheep clogs, and originally from the central Andes. The instrument is used in traditional rituals and ceremonies, and can also be heard in much of the folk music of the region, especially the countries of Bolivia, Peru, Chile, Ecuador and Colombia. It consists of a number of dried clogs (which can also come from llamas or alpacas) strung on a piece of colored fabric, which can carry the instrument like a bracelet around the wrist or ankle. They are usually played by two and can be used in dances
ceremonial.
